The New York Center for Children, a non-profit organization based in New York City, is a center specializing in providing assistance in cases related to child abuse, providing free trauma-informed therapy services for children and youth aged 3 to 22.

Main areas of activity:

• Trauma-focused therapy (TFCBT):
• Weekly therapy sessions for children who have experienced physical, sexual, emotional abuse, neglect, or domestic violence. Play therapy is used with younger children, and TFCBT is used with older children.
• Family work: The center also works with “non-offending caregivers” — that is, parents or guardians who have not harmed the child. In cases of need, individual therapy is also organized for siblings who have been subjected to violence.
• Educational support: Children who have fallen behind in their education due to violence are provided with additional support in mastering school lessons.
• Team of Experts: The center is staffed by an experienced psychologist and four full-time social workers, as well as a pediatric medical director. A consultant psychiatrist is also involved when necessary.
• Referral service: When necessary, children are referred to other agencies and institutions - for medical services, special education, legal assistance, or social support.
• Funding: The center is funded by charitable foundations, individuals, corporations, and partially by government funds. The state share is less than 10% of the total budget.
• Quality control: An individual treatment plan is developed for each child after the first 3–4 sessions and updated every three months. Agreement with parents is mandatory. A system of regular internal monitoring, clinical meetings, and peer supervision is established.
• Confidentiality and collaboration with the school: With parental permission, contact is established with the school and advocacy is made regarding the services needed for the child (special education, etc.).

The center only works with children who have been victims of violence. It does not work with perpetrators of violence, but refers them to other relevant services. All services are free and last as long as the child needs them.
