An effective program to ensure women's safety — WINGS

The WINGS (Women Initiating New Goals of Safety) program was developed by Dr. Louisa Gilbert, a professor at Columbia University's School of Social Work, and targets vulnerable women, particularly women from low-income families in rural areas, and women living with HIV.

The program is based on the Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) model.

With the help of the WINGS program, women who have experienced or are experiencing violence are:
Provided with information about the types of violence;
Helped to identify the risks in their lives;
A safety plan is created for them;
They are listened to and supported;
Referred to social service centers.
