December 3 — International Day of Persons with Disabilities

According to the World Health Organization, there are more than 1 billion people with disabilities worldwide today—that's one in every six people. 80 percent of them live in developing countries, and more than 50 percent face systemic barriers to accessing education, health, employment, and infrastructure services.

In Uzbekistan, community support, inclusive education, and social protection measures are also expanding. Accelerated steps are being taken to establish day care centers that provide a variety of comprehensive services, new approaches to disability identification, training qualified specialists, developing adaptive sports, creating inclusive jobs, and supporting young people with disabilities and introducing inclusive education.

“All people, regardless of their differences, are equal in rights, no one is allowed to be discriminated against, everyone should be able to actively participate in their own lives, make decisions, and have equal opportunities in the state.”
UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

Today, we are not just thinking about numbers, but about the responsibility to create a decent standard of living for every member of society. Inclusion is not a social policy, but a culture. And every convenient staircase, adapted service, respect and attention is a measure of real change.
